The Miami Dolphins' team brass met with Tyreek Hill after the receiver indicated he wanted out following Sunday's season-ending loss to the New York Jets.
General manager Chris Grier and coach Mike McDaniel said Tuesday that they each met with the wideout on Monday but planned to keep those discussions private. Grier attributed Hill's actions to frustration over a sub-par season, both personally and team-wise.
"I would say Mike and I both had conversations with Tyreek," Grier said. "Yesterday, (we had) productive conversations. I would keep those between us. On Sunday, Hill, who had been playing through injury much of the season, appeared to take himself out of the game. After the loss, Hill indicated he wanted to move on, saying, "I'm opening the door. I'm out, bro."
McDaniel said he had a one-hour meeting with Hill in which he told the wideout leaving a game wouldn't be tolerated. The coach noted that there wasn't anything in their relationship that needed fixing.
"I think I was very direct with him. He was very honest, and it was great terms that we were discussing," McDaniel said. "Discussed multiple things, including, without wavering, that it's not acceptable to leave the game and it won't be tolerated in the future. He embraced accountability and I wouldn't say that there's necessarily anything to fix, as much as we had to clear the air in a rough and tumultuous situation."
The air might be cleared, but the question that certainly won't go away over the next several months is whether the Dolphins will ultimately move on from Hill in 2025. The contract Hill signed in the offseason made a .
