Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts suffered a concussion in the first quarter of Philadelphia's last-second 36-33 loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday.
Hurts came out of the game after sustaining a hit at the end of a 13-yard run midway through the first quarter.
The Eagles QB proceeded to enter the blue medical tent and came out of it appearing ready to go with his helmet on, but was then escorted to the locker room for further evaluation. The Eagles officially ruled out Hurts early in the second quarter. He completed 1 of 4 passes for 11 yards and produced 41 yards off three rushing attempts in limited action.
Backup QB Kenny Pickett entered the game for Hurts, completing all three of his pass attempts on a drive that ended with a 4-yard touchdown to A.J. Brown to extend the Eagles' lead to 14-0.
On Philadelphia's next possession, however, Pickett threw an interception which set up the Commanders in scoring range. Washington took advantage four plays later with Jayden Daniels finding Jamison Crowder in the end zone to temporarily cut the deficit to 7.
Philly certainly felt Hurts' absence on Sunday. The Eagles failed to score a touchdown in the second half, scoring 12 points via field goals from Jake Elliott. Pickett went 14-of-24 passing with 143 yards in relief.
The Eagles' loss prevented them from clinching the NFC East, but a win in either Week 17 or 18 will ensure at least one home playoff game at Lincoln Financial Field.
Philadelphia hosts the Dallas Cowboys next Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET, and Hurts' availability will be something to monitor during the days ahead.
