Jets head coach Robert Saleh said at the end of August that pass rusher Haason Reddick still had plenty of time to suit up against the 49ers on Monday Night Football.
It appears that time has now run out.
Speaking on Saturday, Saleh told reporters it would be "fair" to say Reddick has been ruled out for New York's season opener.
Reddick, who turns 30 later this September, has been holding out in the aftermath of his trade to Gang Green from the Eagles.
Philadelphia completed that transaction in part due to Reddick's desire for a new contract, but after New York surprisingly also neglected to rework the two-time Pro Bowler's deal, he requested a trade on Aug. 12.
The two sides have produced little movement since then.
Thus, the Jets will enter a difficult Week 1 matchup without one of their big offseason gets, a player who has produced four straight seasons with double-digit sacks and two consecutive Pro Bowl campaigns.
Players such as Jermaine Johnson II, Micheal Clemons, Will McDonald IV and Takkarist McKinley will have to continue carrying the load in his absence.
Whether or not there's enough time -- and compromise -- for him to join them before another missed game remains to be seen.
