Niners' Deebo Samuel becomes first WR in 20-20 touchdown club

Deebo Samuel's versatility has carried him into unprecedented territory.

The 49ers standout scored on a 76-yard touchdown catch in San Francisco's 36-24 win over the Seattle Seahawks to become the first wide receiver in NFL history with 20 TD receptions and 20 TD runs.

Entering the game, Samuel, perhaps surprisingly, had more career touchdowns on the ground than through the air, as he had 20 scoring rushes and 19 TD grabs before he hauled in the scoring pass from Brock Purdy in the second quarter.

Aside from the milestone, it was a welcomed sight on its own as it was Samuel's first touchdown grab of the season. He already had a touchdown run and has now had at least one TD catch and TD run in five of his six seasons.

It was the biggest highlight in an all-around excellent evening for Samuel. He recorded a game-high 102 receiving yards on three receptions, while rushing four times for 15 yards as he helped to fill the void left by an injured Jordan Mason.

The 28-year-old, who was taken in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, has been called a "wideback" for years now. He's got Thursday's milestone marker as evidence to why, and he did it in emphatic fashion.
