Raiders hiring former HC Norv Turner as senior advisor following firings

The Las Vegas Raiders' midseason coaching overhaul includes adding longtime NFL coach Norv Turner to the mix.

The ex-Raiders head coach will return to the team as a senior advisor, the team announced on Tuesday. In addition, Turner's son, Scott, has been promoted from pass game coordinator to interim offensive coordinator and Joe Philbin is now the interim offensive line coach.

Vegas fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, QB coach Rich Scangarello and offensive line coach James Cregg following Sunday's blowout loss to the Cincinnati Bengals.

A two-time Super Bowl-winning coordinator in Dallas, Norv Turner helmed the Raiders in 2004-05 under late owner Al Davis. He compiled a 9-23 record over those two seasons. In 15 NFL seasons as a head coach, Turner compiled a 114-122-1 record with Washington, Oakland and San Diego.

One of the most respected offensive minds in the NFL, Turner will help fill the void left by the trio of assistants fired by coach Antonio Pierce.

The 72-year-old Turner hasn't held an NFL gig since working as a special assistant to the head coach with the Carolina Panthers in 2019 following his stint as OC with the club.
